The King was dying. But this was not a cause for mourning but an opportunity for celebration, as had been tradition for over 500 years. As he sat in his wheelchair over the capital city’s square, his citizens cheered and waved their flags and banners bearing his name and image. Reminders of when he was youthful and strong, instead of the ragged and elderly figure, with tubes in his nose and a blanket over his weak legs that he had grown to become. But he wasn’t there to lament what he had lost, this was the moment to celebrate the future, and only tears of joy ran down his cheek. They rolled off his skin and splashed onto the large sword lying across his lap. Songs were sung about the King’s long history. Using the very sword to protect the kingdom and slay the enemies trying to break her walls down and harm her people. Memories of the King’s valiant nature and bravery fighting back the darkness filled the heads of those old enough to remember firsthand. Those who were told stories

Everywhere she went, passersby would turn their heads to look at the black cloak-covered body that seemed the glide by them. At this hour, the sunlight was harsh on its own but to be wearing all black would be like wearing 100-pound clothing fresh out of the oven. And under that cloak, the wearer was feeling every ounce of it. Her heavy breathing was scratching her dry throat and she could swear a few grains of sand slipped into her footwear. The bright sun had her pull her hood over her face. Eyes locked on the ground, she only moved out of the way when she saw a pair of feet in front of her, it was the only way to tell when someone was there. Everyone else in the area knew she was there and made an effort to avoid the strange person. Well, almost everyone in the area. In front of her was a very large newspaper leaning against the wall. Upon closer inspection one would see that it was a short person, leaning against a wall, reading a large newspaper to cover themselves.

It didn’t take long for the Holly-and-Abby-propelled sailboat to find the outcrop of rock that harbored an ornate and familiar-looking pirate ship. The two were advised to climb on board, where Cass handed Holly a towel to wipe herself down. Abby was fine remaining wet and rejected as a towel from Cass. “Good for my skin,” she said. “Alright, we need a plan,” Cass said. She marched back and forth in front of the two and stroked her chin. Holly spit the salt water out of her mouth and Abby climbed on Holly’s back to bite her head. “These guys are good at fighting as a group so we need to separate them. If we do this right, we can break up their formation bit by bit and get the advantage on our side.” Holly cleaned out her ears with the towel, with Abby leaning to the side to give her more room. “The captain has a sword; can you handle her with your cane?” Holly asked. She pointed to Cass’s gold cane with the crooked handle she carried everywhere. Cass twirled her cane and stamped
